After, in the Continued Classic present, V/C watch a movie about lovers (Somewhere in Time) who meet despite living in different eras, they have a dream: the balance of the book. In it, in the late 1800s, Catherine Chandler, having broken off her engagement to Tom Gunther, travels to discover her upstate New York estate, Grafton, inherited from her spinster aunt. The estate has a secret: some creature to whom locals ascribe a couple of deaths of malefactors. And Catherine makes two startling discoveries: the identity of the creature, and the fact that the estate is almost bankrupt. Her financial straits cause significant problems. Elliot Burch appears as a neighbor, Jacob Wells as a local doctor. John Pater is alluded to, and Mouse and other figures we know have appropriate parts. There are also two poems by Mari Lynn.

Rating: PG-13
Size: digest, 60 p,
Art Information: One drawing.
Ordering Information: Unknown
Additional Information: "Long Ago and Far Away in the City of New York" is a plausible alternative to the pilot in which C dies of the original attack and her body is returned to her apartment (a la Walk Slowly) by a saddened but not devastated V, who never really got to know her. C's death is then investigated by Diana, who thereby becomes the original Beauty, with significant divergences, as a result, from how events developed in the pilot as shown. Also notable is "Vincent's Pride," in which C complains, to Peter, about her returning to the tunnels after years in the Witness Protection Program's unwanted custody, to find that she'd roused more than she bargained for in awakening Vincent's sexual propensities in the Trilogy cave.

"The Legend of the Unicorn" tells of V, heir to a kingdom, whose dearest companion is Kitera, the last unicorn, who is finally called upon to make a great sacrifice for him....and given a magical reward. Love on Distant Shores is ancient traveler V's account of his adventurous life, including his encounter with a mermaid. "The Stuff that Dreams Are Made Of" tells of C's inheritance, in contemporary reality, of a house and grounds from aunt and her discovery of the estate's very unusual gardener. "Thief of Hearts" combines a childhood V/C encounter with their present meeting and romance, in an alternative to the pilot. The second section is called "The Fairytales." In "Reflections of Ithra," by Kehoe and Rita Hazlett, medieval Lady C learns V has been bespelled within a mirror by a wicked queen. In "Roses and Remembrance," dying Pharaoh V is comforted by commoner lover C as they look to new lives beyond death. "And This Is My Beloved" forces unwilling Lady C into marriage with warrior lord V. Once she sees him, she warms up to the prospect. Contains some explicit sex and artwork.

This story also appeared in Flame and Shadow 8. "Stranded" has Catherine phoning helpers from the office during a snowstorm, informing them of alternate arrangements for getting to Winterfest through the snowbound city. The final story, "In a Dark Time," tells how Diana helps Vincent get through his first Winterfest following Catherine's death.
