Additional Information: Mainly fourth-season. "In the Beginning," concerns the meeting and love between Vincent's parents, a human girl and a felinoid alien not unlike Myhr in appearance. Diana figures in Mills' second and third stories. In "Children Should be Seen...and Heard," Diana locates the hospitalized father of a little girl Vincent has found in the tunnels. In "Once in a Lifetime," she tells Vincent she must separate herself from the tunnel community. In neither story is she romantically involved with Vincent. In Mills' "My Lover's Eyes," ill Vincent becomes the Beast, who rapes tunnel lady Meaghan, who promptly falls in love with him. Jacob is delighted at the prospect of having a new mom. Also a poem by Melanie Turner.

In "Partisan and Apostate," a screenplay, C investigates the mysterious death of a onetime friend, Barbara, and learns about the dangerous world of look-alike drugs.. "When the Smoke Clears" tells of C working with a crippled, irascible man on an arson case. In "Chameleon's Dance," a number of people--C, her father, Jamie, Kipper--contemplate changing their lives, with mixed results. In "Painted Love," tunnel dweller Hallie secretly displays one of V's paintings Above, and V/C exchange a first kiss. In "The Best Anniversary Ever," V/C begin a sensual discovery of one another. This novel presents a complex plot whose major component is Catherine's returning to work and picking up a prosecution she'd previously worked on, that of a man who specializes in making "accidents" happen to anyone who jeopardizes him. Elliot appears, as does Diana, who is investigating another coded book as well as the original.
